Default The "Exploder" motor

I have a 1996 Explorer 5.0, the fuel injection is getting too expensive and too complicated for me, so I am going to get rid of the EFI and put on an Edelbrock intake, 600 or 750 cfm Holley (I havn't decided yet), and the trusty ol' C4. I belive it would be cool to see a restomod, late-model 5.0 carb'd and backed by a C4 select-shift. The engine is a roller-cam, roller-rocker plant with the coolest stock 5.0 heads ever...the GT-40/P's. Are these wise decisions? I think they are so screw you! Just messin, this is what I'm goin with and any advice, comments, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Are those heads stock? if so then you have the older gt40 irons on that motor, gt40p's didnt hit the scene untill 97-1/2
stick with the 600cfm, unless you decide to stroke that motor. The 85 GT was almost identical to the newer 87 and up EFI 5.0's except it was carburated, any setup for those motors will work for you. Good Luck!

no, they're the P heads, you can tell by the way the spark plug goes straight into the combustion chamber

Also, the P heads have 4 parallel bars on the end of each head as opposed to the 3 bars on the original GT40's.

You'll need a bigger cam than the stock one since it was worse than the stock 5.0HO cam and upgrading that will lead to a new valve spring kit to cover the lift of your new cam.

I dunno if the cams for carb'd engines are the same as EFI, but the TFS stage 1 cam is a good EFI cam, especially w/ 1.7 roller rockers.
