With 347 cubes, and if you have the pistons with valve reliefs in the stock style location I would run the AFR 185 heads all the way! If your pistons are fly cut for the twisted wedge heads I would go with the new CNC ported 185 twisted wedge heads. I believe they are CNC'd by TEA for TFS. Here is what AFR 185 heads will do on a carbureted 302.

Between the AFR 165s and the TFS TW, then choose the TFS TW. But as others have said, if you've already bought pistons you've probably already limited yourself. If you must use an inline valve head, use the AFR 185.

The pattern of the fly cut is the key, it is different for TW and inline valve.
Look up the pistons, the description should tell if for inline or TW design.

Ive got NO problems selling the pistons I have and buying the pistons that will fit the TW heads. Is it worth it or should I just get some AFRs? I want to do this right and don't mind spending the money to get the best stuff for my set up.

I have heard great things about both, but I've heard more good things about the AFR 185s. And for the extra few dollars it is to go from 165 to 185, I'd go with the 185s. That's what I plan to get.

AFR's are proven to be one of the best, if not the best performance head in the 1,000$ price range. They really bring out engine to life. I love mine, and was told by my local speed shop, and Hawaii Racing to go with the AFR's over the Trick Flows, and that the Trick Flow intakes work REALLY well with the AFR's CNC ports.

I have built quite a few 5.0 engines with AFR heads. I have had great luck with the 185's. Here is a client's car that has a 308(.040 over) with AFR 185 heads and the FRPP X303 cam and 3.73 gears. It has 24#injectors and the Eddy intake and shorty headers. It has a nitrous master mind on it and it runs 12.2 on engine and 11.30 at 120 mph on a 125 hit of hose!
