Flatty Top Pistons! Ouch
Alright so if you have been reading my posts I have a roller engine now from the wreckers and just pulled this engine apart last night , it has the e'6 heads on it as well has some F'in flat top pistsons! So what my plan was to get a valve job done on my e-7's and get the **** ported out of them, and run my 88 GT 5.0 H0 cam in this engine w 1.7rr.
Should I check PTV clearance? Or should it be fine?
I think I am going to just put it all together and spin the engine over by hand to see where abouts I am at..... as well do these flat tops give me any more compression?

Since you've got it apart, why not run a better cam? I got my E cam for $87 shipped on ebay.
W/ my e cam and 1.72's, my lift is .535. I don't know how much clearance the flat tops will cut out though.....

ALOT! hahah there is no valve reliefs what so ever in flat tops...so right of the bat you are kinda limited as well I want to see how close to 300 HP I can get with stock H/C/I 5.0

Not sure but I think the stock cam with 1.7 rockers may be too much for no valve reliefs. Always clay the motor to be safe. The 1.7 rockers will put you at .475" lift(roughly) and it may be tight. Can you afford to get the block bored, pistons, rod bolts bearing, and piston rings to get a good size valve relief?

Well the thing is, I have one block out getting bored and balanced right now, its not that I can afford it for this second Stang I have but its the fact that this one is my budget project.....I have my old pistons still that are in great condition, should I just change the main bearings, and rod bearings and throw these old pistons from the other block in?

Anytime you are changing cams, changing advances, changing rocker ratios etc, you always check the valve/piston clearance.
look for .090 as a minimum.
I like to use clay/soft springs method with a pair of gutted stock stock lifters tigged up to make solids of them........

I went and got some clay tonight, I am going to be out drinking all weekend in K town, but Monday I will mock it up and see what I have! I think if I go with a thicker Head Gasket like a .60 com thickness I will be fine, but I am going to check before either way.
