Frustrated
I just got my stock mustang 2 weeks ago and my brother in law decided he wants to race me while we are going to a birthday party with his Olds Alero V6.
he has no problem keeping up with me. here's my dilemma. Should I sell the car and get a stick or put some money into this car. I have 1000 to work with right now. Also would the MAF Sensor cause any of these speed problems. I had the engine put on a computer and it said My MAF is Bad the Check engine light came on when I got On the Stang. Another thing if I am crusing 65 MPH and running 1800 RPMS are these low gears. the car has 94000 miles on it.
Thanks

Do this first...put the back end on jackstands and put a mark on the driveshaft and the tire. count how many rev's the DS makes for one rev of the tire. That is your gear ratio.
2 3/4 turns=2.73's
3 turns=3.08's
3 1/4 turns=3.23
3 1/2 turns=3.55
3 3/4 turns=3.73
4 turns=4.10
I think you probably have 3.08's or maybe 3.23's.
Now, here's what to do w/ your $1k.
1-gears-4.10's w/ the stock POS auto--have a shop install them. Gears are NOT something you want to make a learning experience.
2-larger MAF-75mm will help w/ airflow
3-Get a CAI or remove your air silencer (pass. side fenderwell) and get K&N filter.
W/ just those 3 things, you'll notice a huge difference in performance. Get a full tune up (fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and maybe coil) if you haven't done it recently.
