Hey I have some gt40p's and need to know if a mild port/polish is going to be worth it. Im gonna have a 306 with gt40p heads trick flow intake and hopfully a cam with a .514 lift and 224/230 duration. Is it gonna be worth the money?

 

yes, if you do it yourself.
I gained 20hp from porting my stock E7TE heads.
probably more because I had 246hp and 299tq at the wheels.
stock cam, 1.7 roller rockers and professional products intake.
70mm TB and 73maf.

I wouldn't port GT-40p's, I'd just go aftermarket. Get some good alluminum ones for like $1500 or so vs. $500 for porting and you drop probably 60lbs off the front of your car since those heads weigh something like 52lbs a piece, heavier than hemi heads.

 

First off im poor, $1500 thats what I have for my entire engine build. And those heads are not that heavy, they are not any heavier than the stock heads. Also how hard is it to port your own heads?

Acutually, they are that heavy, no they're not any heavier than stock, because the stock ones weigh 50lbs as well. You will never be able to port your own heads properly, all you'll be able to get at is the very end of each port which you will get a gain with, but not what you'd expect for the work you're going to end up putting into it. You will probably end up spending 40 or so hours porting and gain 8 or 9hp. It's not very hard to do, just a lot of work. If the porting is done properly, they'll be worth about 30hp or so. You should just bolt those heads on as it is, they're much better than stock so you'll notice a difference as it is, then save up your money and get a good set of alluminum heads when you get it.
