Default 3G Alt?

Hey guys. Ive decided that i need to replace my alternator. I think my stock one is dying plus the guy before me installed underdrive pulleys, so its really not cutting it. How difficult is to to do the 3G alt swap and what year stang would i need it out of. Is there a catch, like i need to build my own bracket or anything, or is it just basically bolt it up and redo the wiring? Thanks. Matt

Are you sure your alts going bad it might be your underdrives. They suck if your looking for voltage. It will bolt right up you just need to do some rewiring.Sorry dont know what years will work

you'll have to grind the bracket a little bit to get it to fit
the big plug w/ 2 black wires and one small white wire will have to be cut off
crimp the 2 black wires together in a ring lug, then a fast on lug on the small wire
i also ran a 4ga wire from the alt over to the solenoid to take some of the extra load

It's a very easy swap. Last one I did took less than 30 minutes. Here is a link that should help you out!!

Its a great idea to swap it out! Especially if your going to run underdrive pullies.

Look for an alt from a 94-95 stang or get one for those years at an auto parts store. They were 130 amps from the factory and should help w/ your charge problem w/ U/D's.

Thanks a ton guys. Thats exactly what I was looking for! And thanks for the good instruction websites PRO50SC. How much does one of those 130 A alternators cost at autozone or somewhere like that. Does anyone know off the top oof their head? Thanks again. Matt

94-95's still dont charge with UDP's. I installed a set myself, and i will be swapping the alt pulley out with the original b/c im sick of having to hold my rpm's up to keep my battery charging
