Default definition of catbacks

Extremely Noob here please be nice!!
Could somebody explain to me what catbacks and are they different from tailpipes? AND if I wanted to mod my extremely stock GT, where do I begin.

catbacks are everything behind you h pipe,which is where your (cat) catalytic converters are. This includes your mufflers and tailpipes, if i am not mistaken?
