So it's searching for idle?? Do you have a hole in your TB plate? If not, try drilling a 1/4" hole in the center of one half of it.

Ok, let me get this straight. You clocked the meter, got it running right. But it has a cold start problem. You changed the clocking, now the idle search is back. Am I close?

Hmmmm, ok, when the clocking was good for the idle, it was hard to start cold. By chance have you checked the cts for the ecm. Maybe it's sending hot start signal to the ecm when the engine is cold. Not enough fuel to fire it when cold. My wifes old explorer did that. It had the same symptoms you are describing.
