Default Trans ???

Ok hi all got another ??? Before putting in my 93 cobra motor converted to carburated in my88 stang i was wondering if i should rebuild the stock transmission. Before i took out the motor and trans i noticed the prnd didnt line up on the shifter. And the gears changed really crappy. Is there a chance that the cable needs to be adjusted and that will fix it? If not does anyone know any links on rebuilding the auto trans. I heard its a real pain but im pretty good with cars. Never did trans work though. This car was a hackjob before i got it and i dont know any of the mileage. Thanks for all the help Believe me when i say it is REALLY APPRECIATED.

I would buy a manual unless you really want to keep the auto?
