Valve Lash Won't Adjust

Valve Lash Won't Adjust
I have 1.6 roller rockers. The nut that bolts down the the stud has a little alen key stopper nut in it. Now when I go to adjust the valve lash, I loosen the nut, then I loosen the alen key stopper nut almost all the way out. Then i tighten the nut down until there is zero lash, then I go a 1/4 turn more. Then I tighten the alen key stopper nut until its tight. Then I torque the nut to 40 ft./lbs. All is good, until I turn the crank to get the other valves closed and adjust them in the same way. When the first valve I adjusted gets back to the closed position, the rocker is loose again and there is a **** load of valve lash again. Why is this happening? What am I doing wrong?

RE: Valve Lash Won't Adjust
You're not doing anything wrong (I would do a ½ turn preload though), it is normal for the lifters to bleed off oil while you're adjusting valve lash and turning the engine by hand....once you crank the engine and oil pressure raises, the lash will go to 0 and lifter preload should be there......if you want to be 200% sure, remove dizzy and prime engine oil pump using the drill method, you will see the lifters pump up and valve lash disappear. No your not understanding what I am saying. The rocker arms have a **** load of play in them, they can raise maybe a half an inch off the tip of the valve, and the rock side to side like a mother *****. Thats called valve lash right? I just want to make sure I am trying to correct the right thing...
