Quoted for what? Cam?

Most performance shops charge $100 an hour at least where I live.

-Edit-
Oops didnt read title, 300 sounds about right for a Cam job. Takes about 3 hours for a good mechanic.

They need to take the lower and upper intake off, fuel rails, rockers, timing cover, water pump, some pulleys and then replace all the gaskets and seals.

yep a cam will "wake" the sound of your exhaust up

get some new heads and the engine will feel brand new [8D]

Remember guys that you NEED to change out the valve springs when you do a cam swap. If you don't you will not see much of a gain with new cam and you might cause damage due to coil bind and/or valve float.

^^^^X2.... + if you don't, you either won't get the full benefits of the cam, or it'll run slower....believe it, or not.
