Default Dog bone on Diff

Is the dog bone on the differential needed? I'm trying to lighten my car up for the track wednesday night and I'm not sure if its needed. I have high hopes of breaking into the 14's and every pound counts. Thanks for the help.

umm i dunno, i think it has something to do with diff harmonics. i would like to know if you need it to.
