Even if you do build up a 393 like they said your still gonna have to get the hood, oil pan, etc. But if you still want to do it, Your best bet is to get you a re-manufactured 351 long block. All the machine work is done, its already .30 over, they're hot tanked, everything is crack tested, etc. Get you one of those, a buddy of mine picked one up for like $1,200. Cant beat that. Sometimes machine work will cost nearly that much depending on how bad off the block is. Take out the crank and pistons, buy you some 5.0 H.O pistons, they're forged and look for them from a 1987-1992 5.0. Then, im not sure where to get the Crank, i used to have the place in my favorites but i lost it. But i remember the Scat stroker crank is about $350-$399 and thats a cast steel crank, thats all you need. No need for a forged crank if your not using an aftermarket block. Then mybe get you a nice 520ish lift cam or so and that makes up your bottom end. Then the heads are up in the air. You can port the stock 351's. Mybe look around and find some used aluminum heads or something, i'd go with aluminum heads personally. And then you have to decide whether you want a carb or fuel injection. Carb's are alot alot cheaper, but arn't as streetable or as efficient as EFI. EFI is more efficient and more streetable but it's much more exspensive. If you go carb'd get you a 650-680cfm DEMON carb. They're the best for the money. But anyway you cut it, a stroked 351 is a very beastly engine and the increase in weight is more than offset by the inproved power you get. I mean my high school shop teacher has a 68 Mustang coupe with a 408 stroker and that car is a beast. Knocks off low 11's all day long. If i had the money to choose between a 347 and a 393 or 408, i'd go 393 or 408 in a heart beat, my decision is made due to the increased displacement. You just cant beat cubic inches.

Well I already have a cowl hood that is 2.5 to 3 in., so it would fit under that right? And about the block, my grandfather has a junkyard with a ton of connections, so if I just picked up the complete 351 out of a ford truck and used its FI sytem, distributer, injectors and whatever, would that work ok for now? Im 17 and i can only work part time, so new heads will have to wait a while, lol. How much is a cam? and what is the difference between a short and long block? again, thanks a ton guys

if you can, go with the 351, by the drop brackets (cause the deck height is taller than the 302), buy the oil pan, and spend the rest of the money you would for the stroker kit, and sink it into the 351.

I say stroker. I just like the idea of it in general more. Building your own engine. I'm building the 331 stroker at the moment. Instead of using my engine I bought a bare 302 for about 100 bucks. 60 in pressure testing it, 60 in baking it clean, 150 in boring it out with a torque plate (.030 over), about 40 in cambearings and freeze plugs installed. That was just to prep the block. Another 150 to balance the crankshaft when I get the kit in. Theres a lot of money involved with this kinda project that isnt always planned for (I didnt realize I would have that money involved in just a bare block). Just be ready to spend money.
