it's easy, look at the back of the rear end center section. if it has a ring of bolts and a removable cover, it is probably an 8.8" rear. if it don't have a removal cover and the center section bolts in from the front of the car, it is a 9" rear. the 9" rear is a stronger rear and there are more gear ratios available for it compared to the 8.8 which is stock for the Stang, but the 9" is also heavier than the 8.8, but the strength usually makes up for the extra weight in most folks minds. past my bedtime, got to go now!

bring em on! that's why I joined the forum, to get answers from people who know things I don't and if I can help someone else, that's a side benefit for me too! There's a lot of good experience out here on just about anything you need to know.

not knowing what cam, I'd have to guess mid to high 14's in the 1/4 if you got slicks. with a 5 speed a lot depends on traction off the line and how well you can powershift the tranny. try not to miss third gear, I've seen a lot of guys with that problem driving sticks! won $500 bucks in '99 at the Fun Ford Weekend partially because two guys missed third gear racing me and my stock AOD automatic! my new Art Carr Extreme AOD with a full manual valve body and 2,500 rpm stall converter will put a hurting on the average 5 speed!

I'm from Richmond, VA and no I won't be at the Rock this weekend. Our ET points racing season starts Saturday and I don't want to miss the first race! You ought to go to the Rock and check out the action. More Mustangs in one place than you've ever seen and plenty of people to ask questions to. check out the Pro 5.0 cars with the humongous turbos and watch them run low 6's at 220+ mph, they're a real treat to see. too bad your ride ain't together or you could go race too in the Quick Ford bracket, that's for us footbrake racers. they usually have a good manufacturers midway with lots of go fast parts for sale and technical reps who can answer your questions too. take advantage of it if you can, think admission is only $20!

yeah, i had already planned to go, i saw the flyer in a mustang mag, and have been plannin on going for about two months now. Yeah, it'd be great if my car was together, my ex-girlfriend is gonna go up there with me, she has a 2003 mach 1. i dougbt she will race in the quick ford bracket, but maybe i can convince her. Actually admission is only 15 bucks this year. You ever go to any of the races at the rock? i plan to go to several of them this year.
