headers on a stock 5.0
do headers make a noticeable difference on a stock 302
I heard that on a stock 5.0 unequal lentgh shorties ae the way to go as long tube will hurt the low end torque but it makes no sence to me.
Have to change my driver side stock header as it cracked want to know what king of gain I would get from a set & if its worth the agrivation to go equal length or long tube.

RE: headers on a stock 5.0
get rid of the restrictive stockers anyway.... a nice 1-5/8" header would help with low end and faster flow up high... my motor is all stock except for complete exhaust system and its a great start....now i need to work on getting the air in the motor....

True very true!
Its like this are you going to be reving the **** out of this motor? Are you trying to make power at a certain Rpm?What will you use it for?Whast other mods will you have?
Heres a good quick difference in the headers.Unequals suck ***!Leave them alone.
Long tubes help out with torque and especially help down low.
Shorties are for higher reving up in the rpms and are well suited for breathing in the upper rpms.
Give me a list of your planned mods and how you plan to drive this and ill help you out better.

RE: headers on a stock 5.0
as it has 191k I am keeping the motor stock for as long as it lasts it shows no signs of slowing down yet.
its a 89 gt vert 5spd 355's exhaust but otherwise stock. one header cracked so I have to change one figured if its broke fix it faster. but all the mods I am going to do are for handleing springs. sub frame connectors bushings exec. 191k on the orig suspention has tasken its toll.

I'd go with equal length shorties 1-5/8" diameter on a stock motor. long tubes are harder to install b/c you'll need a new H-pipe and too often people go too big in diameter and that's what kills the low end torque. stick with the shorties for now and you'll be fine and it will perform better as the new headers are much less restrictive than the stock ones are.

I noticed you said you want to stiffen up the suspension of your rag top, I to have a 89GT rag and did upgrades on my suspension in steps and the one piece that I thought did the biggest one step improvement was the maxium motorsport strut tower brace that connects at the pinch welds on the firewall. If you don't already have a strut brace I highly suggest this one. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/im...ge/MMSTB-1.jpg

RE: headers on a stock 5.0
I've heard that long-tubes hang a little low. Do they hang low enough to be a ploblem, or is that a myth? And one more thing, will shorty headers fit in place of the stock headers without mods to the exhaust?
