if you want to go all the way, get a set of 1-5/8" equal length shory headers, a 2-1/2" off road H or X pipe, and a 2-1/2' cat back exhaust system with low restriction mufflers. lots of companies like MAC and Flowmaster have the cat back systems. I know MAC has the headers too as that's what I put on my '88 several years ago. if you have to keep the cats, at least get the headers and the cat back exhaust as this will help you out a lot, but if you can do without the cats, do so.

my buddy recently got an 88 gt w/ stock headers, and just had a local exhaust shop cut out his cats, put in an x-pipe and dumped 2 flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers and it sounds mean as hell w/ little backfire.

Thats been the only downside to my open headers and straight pipes.I get a lot of back firing.Im currently looking for a something that will cure that and not cut down the exhast sounds.I love everything but when i take my foot off the gas and heat that popping sound.

mine does it too, but isnt that the car REALLY leaning out at a mid/high rpm, you know you take your foot off the gas and the injectors spray idle....

I've got my shorties, x-pipe, and flomaster cat-back and it runs perfect. It's imporved since I got the X-pipe on and it sounds great too. O/R X-pipe's are around $200, cat backs $250+, headers $100-200.

I jad cherry bombs before i didnt like them. They sound great for about 3 months then the glass pac burns out and you have a straight pipe again and it crackles and pops.I like the sound other than tyhe popping. Its funny though to see people on the side of me as i let off the gas and they here that popping.LOL

I've been asking around and a few people locally at some exhaust shops have said to run the DYNOMAX race bullets and just dump right out of them. But ive yet to hear these at all let alone on a set of true duals no h or x pipe and dumps at the rear axle.I ve heard flow masters and theyre too quiet.I want it loud and throaty as possible but no raspy poppinion sounds.Anyone heard or have these mufflers?
