RE: How long do they last, and your opinion please :D
OH yeah there is another route I can take of buying a mustang thats already built. There are some pretty crazy mustangs for sale in my price range, that already have all goodies. But coming from the Jeep world i'm a little partial to building my own rig, but i guess it doesn't matter. Anyway, with this route, with the money i save from buying it built i can budget to fixing it when it breaks...
just another route
heres some examples

thats $900 for stock long block ...... www.tbolt.net
$1500 short block is with "forged" internals - MUCH stronger over stock, and thus more expensive
$500 "stock" short block - in my opinion will last forever with TrickFlow kit and give you new internals
If you got a short block the hard part of the engine build is done, slap on your
TrickFlow top kit, move accessories over from old engine and you will have
a brand new engine with not much more work than just doing the TrickFlow kit
and it will only cost you about $500 more.
what i described is basically this same engine but with TrickFlow heads instead of Ford.
and you get the intake manifold with TrickFlow kit, doesn't come on this Ford crate engine

Wait i'm a little confused, a rebuild kit costs $1500, and a new engine would cost $900, um..
I honestly dont have the tools or mechanical skills (besides my dad who rebuilt cars back in the day, but does not want it going on in his garage haha) to replace an engine. I "think" i can do the H/C/I with the help of some books.
I know it depends on the driver and what not, but how long would you say a normal engine and tranny lasts with normal spirited driving.
Thanks for the input so far guys, keep it comin

Take it from a person who has owned all types of cars. I had toyo--blown head gasket 118,000 miles. Piece of ****. I had 3 300ZX's piece of crap very undependable they knew when it was payday and bad wiring mine caught on fire acouple times by shorting wires. honda accord leaked oil like a siv no matter how many times the engine seals were changed. I can say 1 good thing about the 300ZX sold it with 198,000 miles engine never gave me a prob. I owned 1 89 Mustang Gt bought it with 82,000 miles had it for 5 years only prob was rebuilt tranny and fuel pump besides that never a prob and I beat the crap out of the car. Decided to sell it because of a baby got the above mentioned Accord, went right back to the Mustang no prob just it runs to hot but its a 13 yo car so I will be doing upgrades to the cooling system.
