Default ATTENTION OLDSCHOOL GEARHEADS!

I have been thinking about putting in a PETE JACKSON or EDELBROCK GEAR DRIVE instead of the timing chain i have because i like that gear whine. Now i've heard that this puts some serious strain on your valve train and arent exactly good ideas. How much truth is there in this? Are these wives tales or is there some truth in there?I would like to hear from guys who have run them for long periods of time and how did they hold up?

Also out of the two mentioned above which would be better? Both are a reputable source so im drawn between which (IF EITHER) to buy.

What about you roundman?Im sure in your 50+ years you've had some sort of experience with them?

pete jackson gear have been out aloooong time....the whine will sometime get on your nerve...your need a cam button and maybe a new timing cover but not likely as well as I think a brass shim

sorry I didn't see this sooner Killer. Pete Jackson is the originator of the gear drives so I would go with the experience. hell, I've seen them advertized for well over 30 years now. he makes two kinds, one is quieter than the other so be sure to ask for the right one. (square teeth or helical) gear drives are the hot ticket for a lot of racers because the gears keep the timing so much more accurate as there ain't no chain to stretch and throw off the relationship between the crank and the cam. I personally have never used one but I know a lot of guys who do and they wouldn't be using them if they were hurting valve train pieces! Plus, I don't think Edelbrock would have started to copy cat them if they didn't think they would sell either! I know what you mean about the supercharger whine sound, they're wicked sounding!
