Need fuel pump wiring help...
Running wires now... was anyway. I'm no electrical genious and need a little schooling on relays. If you look at the directions on summits site: http://static.summitracing.com/globa...hly-12-802.pdf I want to use illustration #3, the one with a relay. My question/questions are:
I want to use a toggle switch instead of the ignition switch. The switch has 3 prongs on the bottom. One goes to ground, one for power and one for load. So I would connect a ground, run a wire from the battery to the "power" side of the switch, then does the "load" wire go to the relay?
Here is what I think,
From the relay I have a power wire running to the battery, with a 15A fuse.
The "to accesories" tab on the relay goes to the pump.
The "ground" tab on the relay goes to the body
The "to switching means" goes tothe "load" tab on the switch.
The "power" tab for the switch goes to the battery
The "ground" goes to the body
The "load" tab goes to the "switching means" on the relay.
Is that anywhere near right? I'd really hate to mess up this pump or catch the car on fire....on the other hand, I'm beginning to hate this car. I noticed the thermostat housing is leaking today...

RE: Need fuel pump wiring help...
sounds good to me.
because if you think about it, the load side of the switch would go to the pump, but to get to the pump it has to go to the relay. i think youre dead on buddy.

Jay;
The link to the PDF file at Summit didn't work for me...anyway, treat the electric fuel pump as a radiator fan motor...to keep things simple check the following diagram..
Use the setup of the left relay (yeah, yeah, I know it's a dual fan setup for a vette).....I assume the 3-prong switch is an illuminated switch...is that assumption correct?..you may also consider adding an oil pressure cutoff switch in the future.

Yes Sir, it's a illuminated switch. I considered a oil switch but I need to get the car drivable. I definately like the oil switch though and would like to add one in the future.
I have no idea what your drawing means... lol sorry, I'm not good at this stuff. If somebody can tell me where the wires go I can do that.
Thanks Joel

RE: Need fuel pump wiring help...
Assuming a 4-5 prong relay (Bosch?)...prongs ids are 87, 87A, 30, 85 and 86....using the diagram provided....
1. Fused 12vdc always hot (battery supplied) to relay prong 30
2. Supply to FP (+) to relay prong 87
3. Ign On 12vdc feed to relay prong 85
4. Relay prong 86 to switch contact side (switching terminal side)
5. Switch to ground (the other switching terminal)
6. Ign On supply to switch lamp.
How are the switch terminals id'ed?....leave steps 4-6 until you post that info....JIC. BTW, prong 87A is not used if you have the 5-prong relay type.

It's a 5 prong relay
there are 2 of these prongs 87 goes to acessory ie: fuel pump
85 goes to ground ie: body
30/51 is fused power FROM the battery
86 goes to switching means ie: toggle switch or ign switch?
The switch is a illuminated 3 prong switch, ground, power and load.
Thanks.

Relay 86 --->illum. sw. load..... then illum. sw. power--->ign switch......and illum. switch ground to ground.

let us know when you get this bad boy fired up again. oh what pump did you end up getting?
