Default Electrical Problems

I have an 87 GT. Lately I've been having problems with my car not running well very sluggis. It has trouble with WOT and Idles very bad. I was working on my radio this weekend and drained the battery. I hooked my battery charger to boost the car and noticed that while the charger is attached to my battery the car idles and revs perfect. As soon as I remove the charger it starts back with the rough idle. Is my alternator possibly bad? The light is not on and the gauge seems to stay around the middle. Any ideas on this would be very helpful.

it kinda makes sense,I know when your alternator goes, and it runs off the battery, once the batery starts getting low it starts to run like crap because theres not enough power to run the electrical stuff, but thats when the battery is almost dead, you woudn't be able to start your car after you shut it off....

That was my thinking too. But the battery seems to stay charged if I drive it everyday. Maybe the alternator is weak.

The amperage out put could be low. You should have the alt/charging system checked out.

That's a common problem with computer control cars. When the battery goes south or begins to the car doesn't run right and sometimes will cut off completly. Trust me.... when the 5.0 altenator starts to give you trouble you will know. I agree whole heartly that the battery is the culprit. Have your electrical system checked at advanced auto or autozone...especially the battery.

Not to hijack the thread. I had a 90 vert and it ran like poop and pulled over to check it out and discovered a fire. The alternator had a reenactment of Chernobyl and melted down.
