Default Oil Consumption

Hello;
My 89 5sp seems to have a thirst for oil. I've had to add 2 quarts in 3000 miles. No noticable leaks. It is coming out the pipes. I notice a little blue smoke under hard acceleration but that's it. How bad is it? I'm thinking piston rings are the culprit, any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. It does not smoke when I let off the throttle. Only when you get on it. This is a 75,000 mile engine that runs very strong. I want H/C/I and was hoping to not have to rebuild the bottom end. How can I narrow down exactly where I'm losing oil? Thanks again for your replies.

how many miles on the car? my car uses about 1-2 between changes... but i have NO SMOKE no leaks no nothin...

it is most likely the valve seals. Do a compression test, if that gives good numers it's probably in ur top end that's the problem

Compression test is good idea. Any leakage out of rear main seal? That wouldn't have anything to do with blue smoke at hard acceleration though. I have an 86 and it seeps a bit from there from time to time. Piston rings or bearings is a distinct possibility, in which a rebuild is a good idea, if budget permits. I had a 90 convert., which had the same issue you're describing.

why I ask about when you let off is a fact that the valve guides are worn
if your using oil then I hold you not using sythedic oil

Thanks for your suggestions. I will perform a compression test and see what is learned. I have no visible leaks from the engine anywhere. Hopefully, it is indeed the valve seals since that will be solved with new heads. The car, by the way, is a clean, untouched 75,000 mile original car (verified by carfax and clean title). The condition of the car is like new. I thought my months of searching for the perfect low mileage 5.0 would have avoided this.
