I would also check the wire harness right at the driver door opening. I had a couple wires break right at the driver's door harness under the top door hinge. It shut everything down on me. (Both windows because the driver side is the master control)

That sounds like a fuse or your driver side switch. My passenger side window did the same thing and I had to replace the driver side switch. Also it may be the plastic gears inside the motors. They crumble and can jam the motor. You can buy the replacement kit on ebay for a couple bucks. While your at it you might as well buy the plastic window guides and replace them as well........

I didn't see what year model this mustang was that had the problem - I have a 2002 Mustang, 3 times over a period of 6 months, the driver side window wouldn't go back up, but the next morning, it went back up. Then a few weeks ago, it wouldn't go back up and the next morning, the next morning and the next morning it wouldn't go back up.

I took it to a shop - they replaced the motor ($166 for the job). Two days later, the same problem occurred again - window would not go back up. I was out of town, so my wife took it back. They did something to make it start working again but don't know what. I got back in town - then it happened again.

This is looking like one of those things where I could spend hundreds of dollars and still not get it fixed. If there is something I can do myself when it happens, I'd like to know. The Ford place said if they work on it, they will replace the motor (again), replace the wiring harness AND the window itself and it will cost over $700. I don't want to go that route if I can do something myself.

I saw posts about popping the door panels and hitting some gear. I've tried to pop them off, but they don't seem to want to come off. I'm afraid to force them too much for fear of breaking something. I can get the window/door lock/mirror control off easily - I see a slot for a screwdriver and it just pops off. But I can't get to anything from there. I don't see screwdriver slots for the door panels themselves.

Does anyone know on a 2002 Mustang how to safely get the door panels off? Does the "smack the gear" thing work for a 2002? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Doug
