Default NO key?

My 1987 Mustang GT starts without a key. Apparently a lot of Mustangs do...

Will my alarm being on prevent my car from being started? And, do I have to go to Ford to get the problem fixed??

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

What like you can just turn the ignition switch w/o the key being in it? If that's the case, just replace the key lock cylinder

Yeah that is the exact problem...

So basically I could take it anywhere and it should be cheap to get it fixed?

You could do it your self. It's very easy.

Remove the lower cover around your column.
turn the switch to the on position
look under the housing where the switch is, you'll see a little hole w/ a pin sticking down, push the pin upward and pull the lock cylinder out. 30 minute job at most.

Although this is an older lock, it still has the same pin you can see it on the top left side of the pick. That's what you depress to get it out. When mounted on the car though, it will be facing down.

Here is a better pic I just found

Yea, my Mustang had the same thing. After I took the key out I had to press it in and rotate it counter clockwise a few times and it would lock. Wierd but it worked
