Default Very slow acceleration in 94 GT 5 speed

hey everyone,
I don't actually own a mustang at all but two of my good friends do. I own a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE with intake/header/exhaust/motor mounts. Tonight I took my friend's 1994 Mustang GT 5 speed back to his house while he took my altima. He was ahead of me and hit the gas rolling at about 10 MPH so I did the same. The problem is that I couldn't keep up with him. I am not trying to brag that my altima is faster than his mustang because I know the GT should be faster. There is also a slightly audible whirring sound when you give it a good amount of gas. Anyone know what this problem could be? Thanks.

I started in first and shut down towards the end of second(he was probably in 3rd at that time in my altima). Is it just first gear that my friend should get or an entire new set of 5 gears for his mustang? I've heard about 3.73s, 3.95s, and 4.10s but don't really know which are the best. 4.10s would probably have the best acceleration but don't last as long, correct?

there talking about rear end gears not tranny gears, id recomend 4.10's don't fear the gear
wont hurt gas mileage to much while your crusing, and top speed is 140~ no reason to even go that fast

Most 94/95 GT's are 15 second cars in stock form. Also most people shift them way too high, 4800 rpm is about all they are good for again in stock form.

I said stock before but I forgot that he has a CAI although that probably gives minimal gains. I was shifting at around 3500-4000 RPMs cuz it isn't my car and I know that his stock V8 isn't the most rev-happy engine. He was shifting at around 4500-5000 RPMs cuz my four-banger needs those revs to get some power.

Yea you definatly have to take it up a little, im pretty sure the power band is from like 3400rpm- 5500rpm(at least what I have experienced from my car). Im not a ford tech or anything but that is usually where I see my power and then when you shift the next gear after taking it to 5500 its right up at 33-3400 Rpm.
