Default Computer and timing?

If your timing is at say 13* and the computer pulls out timing because engine knock is present your fuel mileage will drop rapidly right? So if you experince this should the timing be backed off to the point where its still advanced but not to where the computer starts pulling timing? This question is in search of the best possible fuel economy "lean mixture" without detonation where timing gets pulled and the mixture switches to "rich" but starts hurting economy.

Default RE: Computer and timing?

Also this is in reference to my speed density computer. Would the ideal be a dyno tune/reflash or chip for optimum performance/ economy? The basic principles of timing advance and retard should still apply right?
