ORIGINAL: P Zero

I meant the bumper underneath the bumper covers. The reinforment bar, absorber and whatever else is under there definitly weigh more than the aluminum '79-'81/'82 bumper which is roughly 15lbs. I noticed that he had alum. heads after I posted. And I think that people thought that the GT package weighed more because an LX of the same year is about 700lbs. less. and 5lbs for side skirts ......I call BS, maybe more like 10-15each, thats also including the bracing stuff under them.
And aside from that he was asking where he could shave weight without compromising looks and performance, not how much work it takes to remove the weight, besides Ive heard that on hatchbacks removing all of the sound deadening stuff removed UP TO 45 lbs. I imagine that includes the sound deadening fromunder all the platic on the pillars and what not.
-P.
You can call BS all you want but I know from experience that they are not even close to that. Also, there is no "bracing" on the sideskirts (atleast on mine there werent). Trust me, the sideskirts weigh no more than 5-7lbs for both of them together.

If I were you I would:

-Take off all accesories xcept power steering
-Get a Elec fan from a taurus ( VERY EASY) stock fan and clutch are heavy as hell
-K member and A arms ( Looks wicked as well as lighter)
-get lighter seats and remove rears
-fiberglass doors are amazingly light compared to stockers
-fiberglass trunk lid, don;t worry about removing wieght from the back as a good suspension and slicks will put enough biting force on the tires from a launch.

I heard that if you run fiberglass doors you cannot run regular glass windows... I heard you would have to use lexan windows or something like that... any truth to this?

I am not 100% percent sure, I called into my parts supplier and he said they bolt right up but usually need a little prep work to get them looking perfect. I can;t see any reason why lexan glass would be necessary unless you are planning on throwing some baseballs at the windows

Uh, how is a notch 700 pounds (as in, seven HUNDRED) lighter than a hatch. That, I cannot believe. Unless there's a second motor in the back.. LOL. I can believe seventy pounds.
The fog light system with it's reinforcment beam is very heavy. The front bumper reinforcement is also steel and looks decently heavy.
