t5 clutch adjustment help
so here's my deal, im stuffing the motor and tranny out of an 89 gt into my 65 stang.. all is well but i dont know much about manual transmissions and t5s for that matter. I have the clutch cable setup for my car and im having problems with the clutch adjustments. I am told that the throw out bearing should not at all touch the pressure plate when the clutch is not engauged, (because it will wear out in about 6 months or less) and the way to tell is feeling the play in the fork. On the t5's you can look through the square hole where the fork comes out of to see where the throwout bearing sits. well when i adjust my clutch cable to be "stiff" not loose, (or the firewall adjustment just falls out) the throwout bearing seems to be on the pressure plate. My question is it normal for the throwout bearing to be slightly touching or if it doesnt, how far does it need to be from touching the pressure plate and is there any kind of spring or something to assist that the bearing actually does make it to the correct unengauged position. i know you guys are the 5.0 and t5 pros so i came here to ask any ideas or thoughts would be very helpfull! thanks much

RE: t5 clutch adjustment help
i never really looked inside, but the clutch should start to engage about 1 - 1 1/2 inches off the floor
i would have to say that the bearing would be touching slightly.
seems like it would have to.
make sure it is facing the correct direction. it will go in backwards, but it should be obvious
