Default 1988 notch,should I buy?

This guy I know has a 1988 LX notch with aod tranny for sale, the mods it has are 4.11's and flowmasters running all the way back, the problem with it is that he says if he puts the car in drive the tranny will slip, but if he shifts it manualy it will not slip at all.he wants $1,000 bucks or best offer, the interior is clean but somebody tried to still it and the steering colom is all jacked,so he has to start it with a toggle switch.

The body is streight,he has tried to sand it but gave up, should I go for it,does the tranny have any hope?

you could put a used t5 in it, and fix the column.

worst case scenario is you'd have $2000 invested and sell it for $4000

if it was me.....i'd jump on it.. i have 2 buddies looking for a notch right now

when my old one was stolen i got $800 for a rolling chassis , axle chopped out, windshield gone, puter cut out, harness missing, calipers cut off.

Are you trying to buy it to resell it or to keep it?

I'm planning to put the car on the street, maybe sell it in a couple of years if things go wrong.

see right now I have my 85 gt,and I cant get it registered because it wont pass emissions.(does not have cats air pump and all the other junk to be smog legal) but been racing it almost every over weeked at the track,so now I can make my car into a full race car.
and I was palning to pull my 5 speed out and put a 4 speed in it.

to convert the auto stang I would need clutch pedal..
would the clutch pedal assy work from a 4 cylinder car?and would the strering colum work also from a 4 cylinder car, because we have tons of 4 cylinder stangs in the junk yard to salvage parts from would they work?
