Okay...it's a brand new MSD coil, so I'll throw my old Accell coil in and see what it does....

so you say you have a mini starter?
from what I have read it tells me the starter wiring is wrong.

for the stock starter, the battery positive cable is on one side of the solenoid, and the big wire going to the starter is on the other side.

the mini starters use a small trigger wire to start them.
the big wire to the starter goes on the same side as the positive battery cable(left side) and only the trigger wire for the starter goes on the other post of the starter solenoid.

the alternator cable also goes on the battery side of the solenoid.

no, the wires whould not get hot, it means you have a short somewhere.

try cleaning your ground cables, and the 2 battery terminals.

I put the stock starter back in b/c I originally thought that was the problem. I did have it wired up like you were saying though.

5.0, I'm about to get crackin again, so we'll see what's up w/ the fuses. Too bad this didn't happen earlier...I was in Austin last weekend b/c my g/f's cousin graduated from UT law school.....

I'll try that real quick....

I tried using jumper cables from my beater (93 caprice 305) and it seems to have a little more umph trying to start, but it still won't. I'm about to go buy a battery w/ more cranking amps, i.e. the correct size battery for the car. If it still doesn't work, I can at least rule that out.

I checked all the fuses and I can hear the fuel pump coming on. My car had a T5 when I got it, but it used to be an auto....I mention that b/c at the top of the tranny by the shifter, there is a connector that is hanging (2 hole/prong connector). I believe it is the clutch safety switch, but I'm not 100% sure. My car does crank and try to turn over though, so I don't think that's the problem....
