Default fuel gauge issue

ok so i pull into my driveway and turn off the car with a 1/4 tank showing on the gauge. go out a little later and it's up to full. So i turn it off and start it back up and then drops back down to a 1/4 tank. Any thoughts? retarted gauge needle? sending unit? float? HELP!!

your guage probably just centers itself at full.. if the car is off its not a big deal... as long as it reads properly when its running

thats the thing it may not be reading accuratly. i filled the car up twice now at a 1/4 tank each time and took 10 gallons, is that about right?i don't want to go below a 1/4 tank anyway. Also my gas light comes on at 1/4 tank, is that normal?

Yeah, those cars hold 15.4 gallons So it sounds close (1/4 of a tank being 3.85 -- almost 4 gallons).

The gauges aren't really accurate by design.

thanks alot guys! i'll just fill it up at 1/4 tank for now. I only got a 150 miles to a 3/4 tank! believe it or not half of that was highway driving!

sending unit in the tank is shot.

Replace it and spend money or just keep it 1/4 like they said above and pend the Jack elsewhere.

mine always 1/4 when off

my gas tank/sending unit is messed up. getting all new parts tuesday. its about damn time, my car needs it bad.

i overflowed and lost some gas but ive managed about 120 on half a tank, if the seeping stops i should get well over 200 miles to the tank
