Header gasket?

How did you set the preload on the lifters?

.050 is on the upper end of the scale if I recall. How exactly did you set them?

it makes the noise all the time and the ticking quickens with engine rpm, as for adjusting then i have adjustable rockers so when the intake was closing i adjusted the exhaust a turn and a quarter, and when the exhaust was opening i adjusted the intake a turn and a quarter.

half turn is .020 so turn and a quarter is still under .060 which is in tolerance and if they were too tight it wouldn't be ticking

From flowtech inductions site:
4. Twist the intake push rod with your fingers while tightening down the rocker arm. When you feel a slight resistance to the turning of the push rod, you are at "Zero Lash". Turn the adjusting nut down one half to three-quarters of a turn from that point for street applications. Use 1/8 to 1/4 turn for race applications. Lock the adjuster into position. The intake is now adjusted properly.
From Cranes's site:
4. Now spin the intake pushrod with your fingers while tightening down the rocker arm. When you feel a slight resistance to the turning of the pushrod, you are at ?Zero Lash?. Turn the adjusting nut down one half to one full turn from that point. Lock the adjuster into position. The intake is now adjusted properly.
I run a 1/4 turn.
