The idle screw? You will have to re set TPS (throttle position sensor)voltage. It is that black thing that sits on top of the throttle body. It measues the position of the throttle to let the computer know how much gas to let in. If you have this out, you can run rich.
I agree. If you turned the idle screw, then you changed the tps setting. It seems like the tps could be telling the computer that the throttle is open more than it actually is, and dumping more fuel than it should. Just a guess though. For jollies, I would check the TPS voltage before messing with the idle screw again--just to see if it's set at like 3 volts or something ridiculous like that.

What type of exhaust do you have on it? the black smoke could be caused by soot in the mufflers from not being run or if you are running glass packs it could be from the fiberglass in them burning up and going away causing it to sound as though it is missing and getting louder also.

I do agree i would check the tps and work on the fuel if it is a greyish blue that is caused by it running rich
Rich is black. Greyish blue is oil burning.

i just got back now from running my car a little bit.

my gas is HORRIBLE.

i picked up some fuel injector cleaner and hasnt made a difference...

(ps) i forgot to mention before. when i got my car back from the guy who was looking at it and the head lights dont work.
the running lamps turn on with the first click of the switch, but the headlamps dont turn on with the second click... however the headlights work when i use the flash to pass (brights).

could this be an electral problem? like a bad ground somewhere??

thanks for your help guys!!!

I HAVE TE SAMEEE EXACT PROBLEM MAN! all the suddden.. horrible idle.. black smoke.. and VERY BAD GAS MILAGE! i get like 135 to the tank! its crazy.. this post would be good for me too if you ever figure it out. my mechanic said that it could be the coolant temperature sensor, which would cause the car to run rich if it senses the coolant is sitll cold.

Maybe you filled your tank up with seafoam instead of gas...? Just a thought...

First of all

You have to unplug your IAC and disconnect your negative battery cable for at least 30 minutes before turning the car on and setting base idle. After its set turn the car off again and plug your IAC back then turn the car on and let it idle for 2 minutes, off and idle for 2 minutes. Once you do this you have to re set your TPS also.

A bad thermostat, or thermostat sensor could be preventing the car from reaching proper temp. verify that the thermostat is working at the proper temp about 190.
