timing
ive got a bone stock '86 mustang gt. im wanting to advance the timing to 14* but im not sure if that would be safe with 93 octane. i live in mid-low altitudes, so think it would be ok but i dont want to have to change the timing again to keep it from knocking. any info will be greatly appreciated

RE: timing
Here is a very good thread on advancing your timing.

You should be just fine bumping it to 14*'s if you are using 93 Octane. As far as you only setting it once and that it. That is not exactly how setting the base timing works. Just because you bump your timing to 14*'s doesn't mean that it is the optimal setting for your car. you could be loosing HP because it is set to high or loosing HP because it's too low. To properly time your car you really need to goto a drag strip or to a Dyno and play with the settings. Hope this helps

RE: timing
ive seen a few people with 12* timing on a stock motor, so maybe thats the way to go. sucky thing is nearest drag strip is 120 miles and nearest dyno is at least 60......but my mechanic thats doing it has alot of experience with fox mustangs, so hell have a suggestion. thanks tho

RE: timing
Im going to try and run 12* on a 100% stock motor this weekend. From what I am understanding from other people I should be fine but I might need to run 89 octane instead of 87. No big deal though.
