guage problems
I just bought a 1992 5.0 LX last night and it has some issues that are kind of odd that I am hoping you guys can help me with. I am hoping they are easy fixes. The main one is that the guages do not work. The speedo sort of works..at 70 it says i am going 40....Something odd is that the gas guage and temp guage both sit at the half way spot rather than a "dead needle" spot.
Other issues are the cruise does not work(no surprise there) and the fan for the a/c does not work. Just throwing these in there in case they help to locate the electrical issue with the guages.
Someone at one point did put white face guages in the car..could that be a part of the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

check fuse #18. Make sure it is good.
this dude feeds the tach and guages
there are 2 connectors that feed the ip, are the lights on all over, or lights on only left or right?
those guages are sitting 1/2 way bec not all guages go to zero when pwr is off. I know the oil pressure guage doesnt
go to zero when off.
Finally, as you test, a way to see if the guages is working is to ground the wire connecting to the oil pressure sending unit.
This is the funny bell like device with one wire comming out of the top, just above the oil filter. When you ground this wire
the oil pressure guage should peg at high/100%
Good luck

I am gonna try and jump into this mess tonight and over the weekend. I got some info on another forum that possibly when the guy installed the white face guages(or covers) that he may have pressed the needles back on too tight or something like that..probably a longshot, but I am hoping. LOL
