Gears
I dont know much about the gears in my car but i've noticed that almost everywhere a question is asked it comes up that 3.73 gears should be installed to their car. What are the effects of changing the gears (#HP??)? what does a stock 94 gt have in the first place? sorry im sure this has been asked but i couldnt find anything other than suggestions to add but not really any reasons
gears give you absolutely no horsepower but they do give you accel. it will allow you use the power you have a little better, if you have a stock cam you make power from like 1500 to 4500 or something like that, so in the lower gears you will be able to hit that range a little quicker, but you will loose some speed off the top. i have 3.73s and i would recommend 3.55s for a street car, just my 2 cents
you'll get many opinions on what to get. but a change from 2.73 to 3.73 or 4.10 will "feel" like adding 100 hp
stock gears are located in the door tag.
under "ax" code
m=2.73
z=3.08
e=3.27 (aod's only)
personally i like 4.10's, i had 2 cars (aod's) w/ 3.73's and they needed SOOOOOO much more. i am on my 2nd car w/ 4.10's
i still get 21.25 mpg on the freeway w/ my 4.10's and tach 3000 rpm at 80 mph

Your 94 has 2.73s stock, a jump to 3.73s would be pretty drastic, and the higher the ratio, the more drastic a jump it would be. Now I would say get 3.73s and learn how to drive with those, then, in after a while jump up to 4.10s, only thing is that while gears are pretty cheap, the install can run upwards of $400, so this is one of those mods that you want to get it right the first time. I would personally go with 3.73s, actually I did on the old sixer, but instead of actually installing them I bought the car below and resold the gears. So in short get what's right for you, if you do a lot of hwy driving, then you may not want the larger gears as the larger the ratio number the more gas you'll burn, but if you're a speed freek and can afford any amount of loss in gas, then go for the higher gear ratios. Oh, gears don't add any hp, they just quicken your accelleration.

Well I've managed to get over 3000 ***** post in the sixer forum and along the way I've learned a thing or two. Now I just have to apply all that old info about the 3.8L V6 to the old 5.0L V8, but basically speaking, it's all the same.
I live in Tucson AZ and the only highway we have is the freeway to get to mexico or phoenix. So i pretty much only dirve in the city. It would be nice to get good gas mileage and what not, but thats definately not a priority. So would it be a better choice for the 3.73's or the 4.10's? Is there any disadvantage to going straight to the 4.10's instead of the 3.73's and then 4.10's?
