Thanks for the help guys. If I do decide to eventually put in a 351 it'll probably be an ebay or junkyard motor that I rebuild myself

I think I've decided against a 351....how would that lincoln 302 work as a 347 stroker project?

Why would you decide against the 351W? There is absolutly no reason in the world not to.

They are WAY stonger than a 302 block which leaves you way more room to grow. You can stroke them to a 427ci

They sell conversion kits for them for a few hundred dollars .... no big deal at all.

They are very commend very cheap... you can get a 351W block for the same price.

They make more power when worked.

They are WAY more reliable as a 351W than a 347.

And they are just beasts

Think about it........ seriously.

you said you dont have the money to rebuild a 351, but thats what you would be doing with the 302 anyway man. If you want you 302 stroker to last I wouldnt go higher than a 331. Otherwise there is a lot of friction on the cylinder walls, a stroker is fairly complicated so read a good articel on them, you'll be glad you did. Im broke myself, but this winter I still plan on buiding a 351W and cheap-o stroking it to a 393, carbing it, and slowly picking up performance parts as I get the money. A 351 is just a much better starting point, since a 347 is the max a 302 will go to. Plus a 351 block is much stronger. Like previously stated, the only difference is the deck width.

R. barn I was under the impression that only 94 to 97 351W's were rollers?

I may consider it. I still need to get a stang first [:@].

I've been looking on the 'net for a used 351W, no luck finding them. All of the ones on ebay are $4,000 built ones.

Going to look at this 92 GT this weekend and test drive it. Going to give $1,000 down till I can sell my pontiac and pay for the rest.

And if you keep the 351W a 351W its actually cheaper because you can save yourself the 1000-1300 dollars on the stroker kit for the 302... so basically that makes up for the conversion kit plus an exta few hundred left to spare. Trust me, 351W is the only way to go if you are going to build a motor.

Where should I look for a motor to begin with?

I want a 94-97 351W, right?

Well, you can check out ebay for a 351W block. If you do not want to deal w/ Ebay and want to buy direct search the local junkards and search forums... I dont know what its like near you but 351W's are almost a dime a dozen around here in NJ.
