stock gearing?

stock gearing?
oooook... my door tag is unreadable..... i run about 2050 rpms in 5th at 70 mph.... anyone got an educated guess? my car is a 1986 mustang gt vert with a 5.0 H.O. and a stock 5 speed. i think it has 2.73's but im not sure. any help would be appreciated

2.73 were common in '86 and 3.08 were also available....you might want to check using this calculator. Hope it helps.

oh yea, and if the gear kit is $150, with all the necessary items to install, what should the labor be? im debating on ordering some and having my mechanic put them in when he changes the rearend lube, installs my shocks, and installs my shifter...

Gears on a stock motor is where youll get the best bang for your buck. If you already had a powerful motor or a poewr adder, then put on gears, you're in heaps of trouble. Those tires will spin all over the place, and you will maybe even hurt your time...or your back tires. But yes, on a stock motor, definitely go with some 3.55 or 3.73. Be prepared for a slight drop in fuel economy, but also be ready for your car to wake the FU<$ up.
