Timing and Idling a 1993 5-speed
We just got our 3rd mustang last weekend -- 93 5.0 with a manual transmission. My father now owns one. Anyway, we just finished replacing the plugs and wires, oil, fuel filter, rotar and cap. It runs kind of rough so can you guys tell me step by step how to time it?
The idle is also off when cold. After it's warmed up its fine for a while then it wants to stall out. The staff at Auto Advance suggest replacing the throttle piston sensor and/or idle air control valve. What do you guys suggest?
Thanks!

assuming that it is stock i would check the timing and set it at about 8 degree's if necessary and before replacing anything take the iac valve off and the egr valve off and clean them with b-12 and see what that does

Here's a list of recommended maintenance activities and links:
- Clean/Maintain Salt & Pepper Connectors
- Cleaning the Throttle Body
- Resetting the base idle
- Setting the TPS voltage
- Cleaning your MAF
- Timing calibration
- Finding possible vacuum leaks
- DIY KOEO/KOER self-tests

Fixing it all up would make his day and mine. As soon as it is working correctly, I get to learn how to drive a manual transmission. [sm=happy046.gif]

On the balancer there is a "scale" imprinted on it. You will need to clean the dirt, dust & grime from it to see the marks usually. Anyway, on the passender side of the engine (in the front) down below the waterpump you should see a timing pointer. What you need to do is get a timing light and with the engine running at operating temp and spout out, see what the timing is at right now. Ten degree's is stock.
Here is a whole lot of timing info for you to read. You'll be setting timing on the whole neighborhood before long.
