Idle adjustment issues
Probably an obvious problem but it's all new to me.
The engine has been idling at about 1100+ most of the time, sometimes dropping to 900. Time to clean and adjust...
Here's what I did:
Cleaned the IAC
Cleaned the throttle body.
Unplugged the battery for 30 minutes.
Unplug the idle motor.
Connect battery.
Start car, set idle with screw to 800 no problem, turn off car.
Plug idle motor back in, start car let it run for 2 minutes. (idles fine at 800)
Turn it off and wait for 2 minutes.
Turn it back on with all accessories on for another 2 minutes, idle is still good at 800.
So I had to check the TPS voltage now right? Ok..
Engine is off but key is on, pin in the green wire going to TPS.
Check voltage - it's low at .6
Loosen screw, adjust it until I'm reading .98, tighten it up at .98.
Take the car for a spin and it's idling at 1100-1200. WTF.
Now it also seems to hang higher than before, coming down slower and only getting to about 1100 or so.
It was fine until I adjusted the TPS voltage to be in it's proper range.
Do I have a bad IAC, TPS, idle motor??
I'm tempted to adjust the TPS voltage down even though it's supposed to be at 0.98, just so I'm not wasting gas idling so high at every light.
Thanks for your time.

the myth is that the tps should be set to .98vdc for best performance.
that is simply not true. the tps should be between .49 and 1.2vdc. for further explanation read the second post here http://www.my5oh.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=70

fastdreams, I've been fighting the exact same issue for months now with mine. Did pretty much everything you have done, even repeated a few of them.....I too "tweaked" my brand new TPS and locked it in at 0.97. Seems to have instant throttle response, but I still have the issues you mention.
TENGRAM, do you have any ideas as to what setting might be optimal for the TPS to get our idle and the surging back under control?
Thanks guys
