stupid question about shifting

RE: stupid question about shifting
Power shifting, speed shifting....I consider them the same thing. It's basically, normal shifting...but without letting up on the gas! (you have to be VERY quick). Since your not lettng up on the gas, when you press the clutch IN your RPM will start to sky-rocket. If you don't get into the correct gear and re-engauge the clutch fast enough your engine will over-rev (blown engine) unless you have a rev limiter.
Also very hard on the tranny.....I wounld recoommend it unless your have the tranny to back it up. Just my .02.

granny shifting is when you shift properly, power shifting is when you do not release the gas and shift, you still press the clutch in. speed shifting is kind of a little of both you pull out of gear as you are starting to press the clutch and starting to release the gas but you get it into gear b4 you ever actually release the gas entirely, i think that is speed shifting

Damn so that's why I keep over reving at times, my dumb *** keeps forgetting to take my foot off the gas, man this going from V6 auto to V8 manual is still triping me out, or maybe it's all that damn beer I drink in the sixer forum.[sm=alcoholic.gif]

RE: stupid question about shifting
Speed shifting: keeping your throttle foot to the floor while quickly stabbing the clutch and shifting into the next gear.
This is very hard on the entire drive train. The motor if you miss a gear (like third) the clutch assembly, transmission, ujoints, and the rear axle. Then there is the torque boxes that also takes a beating especially when speed shifting into 3rd and 4th gears.
The shock that is transmitted to the drive train is substantial and will cause premature failure of more than one component.
Personally I save my speed shifting for my jap car, 1985 rx7 been beating the **** out of it for years now, 20 years and have had to replace the tranny, clutch, motor and reinforce the transmission mounts after they tore off one summer afternoon 10-12 years ago
Hit the red line and the dash alarm starts buzzing(we call that the fun zone)and then speed shift. hehehehehe[sm=bounceybounce.gif]

RE: stupid question about shifting
powershifting, speed shifting, its all the same. granny shifting is a f&f term and it dont apply to me. and as for it being hard on the drivetrain...you break it, you buy it bro!
