what model car? on a 94-95 the tensioner has a 3/8th square hole that takes a 3/8th drive ratchet. makes it real easy. but yea, im bout to have to change mine this week also. youll find it an easy job with getting the belt back on being the toughest part. just try not too let the belt fall off the other pulleys or youll be rerouting it which isnt hard but is a lil aggravating.

^^ Definetly aggrivating if you are trying to do it by yourself. If someone else is there and can hold it for you it makes things MUCH easier.

i agree, call a buddy and tell him to come share a 12pack with you. trick him into coming over and then borrow his help. its easier with 2 on the belt. one to work the tensioner and the other to slip the belt.

It will actually only take about 30 seconds to put the new belt on if you have two people. I have never done it by myself so I couldnt give you a time for that but I could image that it might take a while lol

I have an 87 and again thanks to everyone for help. It's been killing me..the weather is finally nice and the car has been in the drivewave for 3 weeks. Redyed interior, thermo and now this. But for the first time ever, I'm doing this instead of paying someone to do it. Repair guy wants $300 to do the alternator.

As far as a quality repair manual..can you point me into the right direction. I don't want to waste money on one that won't help.

Seriously, you should get another mechanic. Also, get a haynes manual from Autozone.

Don't get repair manuals...Get the Shop Manual that the dealerships use. It has everything imaginable, and the illustrations are actually good. If you have to get a repair manual go with Chiltons...better than Haynes. I bought a bunch of literature for my car, including the Shop Manual, a Wiring Diagram, and an Interior Diagram. It's worth it to have that kind of stuff around.
