Default 95 Mustang Problem

Hi there! I am new to the community, so please be gentle with me

I am getting ahold of you in hopes to get some answers for my problem! While I was paying for school, I put my car up as it is a huge gas hog, and expensive for insurance etc.

Anyways, I recently got it back out and gave it a full tune up. (plugs, wires, dist cap/rotors, oil filter/oil), and the car is backfiring and missing quite profusely. When I let off the accelerator you can hear the exhaust backfire, and the car starts missing and shaking noticeably. I know that the EGR valve is out, but would this cause the car to act like this? The fuel filter was just replaced before the car was put into storage.

It's a 1995 ford mustang GT (5.0). Any insight on the problem would be much appreciated.

Who installed the plugs/wire and rotor and do they know what they are doing?
What kind of plugs are they and what gap did they set them at?

have you checked the plugs and their gap?sometimes as soon as you put plugs in it might do that anyway but only for a few secs.....also it sounds like your timing might be off, but im not positive

We installed them all ourselves and yes we know what we are doing. We replaced them with Bosch Platinum's, and they were pre-gapped. We checked the gaps on them just to be sure though.

As for the timing, it cannot be adjusted. There is a warning sticker right on the engine that says it uses an electronic timing system that cannot be adjusted and tampering can cause serious mechanical problems.

if its a 302 you can adjust the timing... the warning sticker is probably just to discourage you from doing it. the timing could be off...

The haynes manual and service manual we are looking at says it's a 405 and that the timing can't be adjusted on it

Yeah I was looking at some stuff online about them and the 5.0 has an electronic timing system that's automatically adjusted by the MAP sensor, the EGR sensor, and a couple other sensors. I'm going to have to run a diag. test on it to find out what exactly is bad and get it replaced.

For your information, it can't be too simple. There have been a handful of people who have tried offering to help and none of them can figure out what it is, either. I had my eye on the EGR from the moment I heard it backfiring, I was just trying to see if anybody else had come up with the same conclusion before spending 100 dollars on a part.

Changing sparkplugs and wires doesn't take rocket science. Pull one out, put a new one in, replace the wire.

What happened to being respectful to people on this forum?? Even if you didn't mean for that to come across as rude, it most definitely did to me. Obviously Ex0r came here for advice and suggestions just like everyone else, so take it easy. I'm sure you wouldn't want to hear that from someone else about your own car troubles.
