Not trying to steal this thread, but will an HO motor still run with the number 5 and 3 swapped, this might be my proble.

the dis should be marked #1 and go clock wise is cronilogical order, and the cylinders are # 1357left 2468 right.
Maybe I'm reading your response wrong, but the distributor spins counterclockwise. Put the number one wire on the cap marked '1' and then follow the firing order counterclockwise on the cap. Rotating it clockwise advances and counterclockwise retards the timing.

[edit] I see that roundman posted a nice pic showing this already. Oops

5pntslow, if you have two wires mixed up, it'll likely fire up but will run crappy. Double check your order and that each wire is properly seated.
