Karma,
The GT 40 P's came out on the Explorer in mid 97. Before then it was juts GT 40's on the Explorers. I think the X's were aluminum or something like that.

I just don't remember if Ford put the 5.0's in the Expos before '97, I had to ask.
Sorry 4the Brainfart. So again, you could pull the heads off of a '96 and earlier 5.0 Expo, and those would be "real" GT40 heads??
Thanks,

RE: Who's Running GT 40P Heads?
96-97.5 Exploders had the same GT40's as the 93-95 Cobras. 97.5-01 Exploders had the P heads.
From what I've been reading, it looks like the BBK headers will work IF you use spark plugs for the P heads (not stockers) and 90* boots instead of the stock style wires. I misunderstood...I thought the BBK's would work. Now the FRPP stainless and ceramic headers WILL work on the P heads as well. The problem w/ some shorties is that the primaries don't extend far enough away from the head to clear the plugs (since the angle is different), but it looks like stock headers will work since the primaries are smaller than aftermarket. Although I don't know why you'd upgrade heads and not headers!!
5.0, do you have the P heads already or are you looking to get some? If you already have them, see if someone locally has a set of BBK shorties you can use for fitment just to see how it all fits together.... If you don't already have them, I'd get the GT40's instead.
