....for the 'gear ratio', I took my 5th gear ratio (.68:1) x my 'suspected' rear end gear ratio (3.73). Or like you said (.68x3.73).
OR (I would think)
You could just check your RPM's in 4th (I would think) which should be 1:1 (I think all T-5'd were 1:1 in 4th). That would give you what your RPM shoud be in 4th gear at a particular speed.
I think factory for most years was 2.73, and 3.08. If your close to those numbers your probably 'stock'.
I was shocked when I ran my numbers.......... ;-) Someone beat me to the Gear Change!
;-)

You are right. 5th is overdrive in a stocker. Sorry used to changing clusters to make a 5 speed keep up with a six speed. I was never concerned with mileage. But gas is almost $3 a gallon, wow! I may be in the geo metro biz before long. LOL!

splitting hairs between 3.55 and 3.73s unless your are at the drag strip. You can kinda eyball the tenths or line a chalk mark on the diff lining up to the drive shaft. Then you get a reference point for halfway, 3/4 around.

Next time you change your rear diff oil. Look at the pinion gear most company's put what gear they are. or you can divide the # of teeth on the pinion gear into the # of teeth on the ring gear. for example if you have 10 teeth on your pinion and 41 teeth on your ring you have 4.10's
