I want to run a short belt bypassing power steering. Will this screw up my rack if i drive it like this?

if you are turning the wheel while sitting still, it would put a lot of strain on your steering shaft/intermediate shaft. if you just turn while you're moving, it won't do as much damage, but its still not good for it.

~~don't bypass power steering :P

yeah..your rack is power assisted. its not meant to be forced like that and it'll be hard as ***** to turn. if you dont want power steering buy a manual rack otherwise dont even mess with it. No good can come from it.

I could drive your car 2 tenths faster the way it sits. Let's be rational here.

while its better to get a manual rack, i took out my power steering an have been using the same rack for about 2 years now... just dont plug the holes where your hoses connected... it needs to breath...

Oh, an if you do it this way, it should actually cut off about 5 seconds due to aerodynamics... [8D]

On my old winter beater the rack leaked really bad and I didn't want to fix it so I lust took the belt off and ran it like that....it sucked. It mad me way over drive andthing else I drove cus it was so much easier to steer than my beater. I would go the manual rack way. If you want to just do it for a few minutes at a time, you would have to drain your fluid everytime or else it would pop your cap off and make a mess out of it all.

yeah, if your gonna use the rack you have, you need to completely remove everything else... pump, hoses, etc... you cant manually force fluid through the rack... an you will find its not that hard to steer... the car has to be rolling a bit at least though...
