Am i Burning Oil?

Am i Burning Oil?
Ok, so yesterday I hop in my car and cruise around the neighborhood. I notice my "LOW OIL" light is on, so i head home to check it.
The oil level was BELOW if not barely touching the bottom of the dipstick. So i ran to Wal-Mart (in a dif. car) and picked up 2 quarts, poured them in, checked it today and it was at the same level as it was after i had poured more in.
I'm 500 miles short of my 3,000 mile oil change.
Am i burning oil? Haven't noticed any leaks or funny smells either.

you need to do a good visual , they can leak sitting or when its running only , generally you should burn 1\2 - 1 quart on a decent milage car in 3000 miles , imo
pull some plugs , if its buring it bad it should show by then

If you're loosing two quarts that quick you've got to have a leak. If it was burning all that you wouldn't be able to see anything behind you for all the smoke. Let the car run and check for leaks underneath.

Ok, i forgot to say that i didnt pour the whole 2 quarts in.
It is definately not leaking as i park in the garage every night and it is a light grey paint on the floor, and i could notice if it was.
I think maybe my brother (last one to change oil) may have put a little bit too little in, and therefore after it had burned about a quart it was too low. Because, i poured about a quart and a 1/4 in and it was a little too full. So im thinking i just burned a quart. There is no smoke and no leaks, so if its not naturally using it i dont know what the problem could be.[sm=smiley24.gif]

does it smoke at start up? if it does, usually rings. if not, it probably smokes during driving a little and you cant really notice it. probably valve seats in the heads are worn. if its a quart or less between changes, thats not to bad. how many miles do you have on it.

Oh yea dude, that's not bad, almost normal for some stangs with that many miles. Probably no real fix other then a full rebuild, you could try putting in some stop smoke, not any kind of powder or anythying, get the liquid. It will increase the viscosity of the oil and it might help some. Plus next time you change it, don't know what you're putting in now, but you could go with 20-50 for the summer, might help it run a little smoother too.
