DSS ...the facts the lies ???
then you will def need an r or the dart. the sports man blocks limit is 650 , the old one seemed not to hold the advertised power , thats why there the sportsman II block now . what i meant by the dart not just being a drop in is , with those high end blocks people still finish them to there exact specs if there going that big . i know for a fact the mains are not finished but the bores can be . the r block from what i know should be finished , to what varience between bores or main bearing bores im not sure . they where always touched a lil to make them exactually where the should be . if your going on the lower end of that power the sportsman should work, much cheaper than r , or the dart . i would never spend that much money, time and machine work on a stock block and go over 550 unless someone was paying for me because of a race or something. they usually do go .
my friend gotta 331 from D.S.S. and so far its been good, he put on a procharger and is gettin about 400 rwhp. the only thing is D.S.S. sent him an over weighted flywheel that wasn't meant to go with the engine so...after that was fixed there has been no problems.
How much boost is he running ? A 331 with a supercharger should be running way more than 400 horsepower at the wheels. Does he have Heads, Cam, and everything also ?
yea i know the problem is that the fuel injectors are too small, so the engine bogs down at around 4500 rpms. he is fixing this prob. then getting it tuned again. I'm not sure of the boost but i think its around 10. i'll get back to ya about that.
He got the whole engine (minus procharger, valve covers, headers, and oil pan) from D.S.S.

everything is not forged in DSS kits, so that might be the problem unless they make a kit where everything is forged? and you can get up to 600 on a stock block. Its strong enough if you have forged internals.

how do forged internals make the block stronger ? You can upgrade to a forged crank for a few hundred extra in there kits. Doesnt exactly give it more horsepower , its more for strength... IMO
