Default timing

hi i was just wondering what i should set the timing at on my 93 5.0, also the #1 cylinder is the 1st one on the left lookin from the front of the motor. thnaks mods are listed below if it matters , thanks a lot.

yea, that's the #1 cylinder then it goes back and starts on the left with 5. If it's set at 10 now, which is stock put it up a couple degrees and see how it runs then if it's running well put it up another one or two till you get to around 14. The foxes seem to like it right around there. Make sure you disconnect the spout connector (pull the little black plug out that comes out of the ignition module on the distributor) before you do it.

I think Vert meant #5 starts in the front on the right That is if you're standing in front of the car, looking back towards the motor.

It can get confusing when some people say left, which is correct when sitting in the driver's seat.

Have I confused you anymore?

LOL, yea yea, see I was probably mixing up in my head the looking at the engine and the mechanic's left and right. So yea, if you're looking at the engine from the front it goes 1-4 on the left side and 5-8 on the right.

ok thanks a lot for the replies now i just need to clean the rust off of my harmonic balancer so i can c the timing marks, LOL! will sand paper work ok, thanks again guys!!

Use a chalk to highlight the mark you want. It shows up better when you shine the timing light down on it.
