Im trying to get some more opinions on what to do with my 86 gt 5 speed I just bought.I didnt know about the whole speed density thing untill I bought the car and Im being told you cant do alot with the speed density system wiyhout a new computer and mass air sensor.Im trying to get a 13 second street car on a tight budget .What combo would yall recomend to do this I was going to get the trickflow head cam and intake combo but then I read it will not run right with the speed density set up.I really dont want to run nitrous or a charger.Any advice?

You want to hit 13's with the SD '86?....concentrate on traction/suspension upgrades, reinforce those torque boxes, subframe connectors, and a good set of drag slicks, and 3.73's or 4.10's, and a good tune, and 1.7 rockers, and intake....get those 60' numbers to 1.8 sec, and you should be there.....optional....TW heads...you will definetely be there. Besides, if you want to upgrade to a cam afterwards, you need to get rid of those E6 heads anyway, and then....MAF it. My 2ยข.

I am getting mid 13's with my 87 and I am sure I can get low 13's with some suspension work. I have stock intake and cam. I just have basic boltons, gears, 1.7 roller rockers, ported and decked E7 and full exhaust. I don't have any real issues to speak of besides traction.

Thanks for the cam info.Could you tell a big difference when you installed this cam or did you do everything at once?

Default RE: 86 speed density ?????

Sorry for all the questions but Im new too the whole mustang 5.0 thing.Anyways I have one more question.I just bought this car (86 gt) and the previous owner gave me the reciepts for the exchange long block he just put in and I was wondering if the exchange motor had the flatop pistons that came in the 86 5.0 so I called the engine builder and he said that there not that year specific now Im wondering if it is even a 5.0 h.o or if its just a regular 5.0 with the h.o upper intake that came off the original engine. What makes a 5.0 a high output. For some reason my car feels kind of weak I had a 04 gt with a few bolt ons and had some good races with the bolt on 5.0 cars and this car dont feel near as strong as my 4.6 did. Thanks for all your help.
